IBFW Day 2- Rina Dhaka

Rina Dhaka, the veteran as we know her showcased  a shimmering collection in IBFW 13´on its day 2.  Sophie Chaudhary opened the show wearing a beautiful mirror work bustier teamed up with appliqué patchwork sharara. Rina Dhaka’s collection- ‘Free Spirited Bride’ was a play of textures, embroidery, opulence and style with panache. Patchwork, gota work and traditional kamdani work ruled her collection. Neutral shades in contrast with brighter ones, shararas with short anarkalis, high collars and patchwork were some of the key highlights.

Her favourite sheer was reintroduced with use of gold, stretch, satin and work in the form of churidaars.

To add glamour to the show or perhaps to promote their new film, Prateik Babbar in velevet sherwani with heavy goldwork on the shoulders and Amyra in gold and nude coloured sharara concluded the show.

Personally, we did not like the collection so much and would give it a 4 on a scale of 10. 😦

IBFW Day 2- Meera Muzaffar Ali

Not wasting much time let´s just tell you that Meera Muzaffar Ali´s collection was quite impressive and impact-full. The ramp was beautifully adorned with flowers looking like a royal courtyard of Lucknow. The Kotwara collection was truly what a modern bride would want. The show began with a brigade of pretty models sashaying down the ramp in soft shades of whites, nude and beige. Kundan, pearls and large chunky balis added to the look.

Some interesting pieces were chiffon blends with velvet and brocades, embellished with zardozi and chikankari. All together it looked like a playground of textures.

The  colour palette that started with nudes and whites grew to brighter hues such as pinks, reds and purples. All that accentuated with use of gota made the show a real treat to the senses and what we loved most was the contemporary and rich use of Lucknow´s chikankari work. Image

IBFW Day 1

India Bridal Fashion Week 2013 is on and we are busy with attending the shows and satiating our fashion cravings.

First day as most of us know saw enough chaos and delay. There was gossip that Kangana Ranaut, the showstopper for JJ Valaya caused the ruckus as a result of being unprofessionally late. However, that is not something we much care about. Let´s see what the first day openers JJ Valaya and Shantanu and Nikhil had to show us.
Starting with JJ Valaya, his collection,‘The Maharaja of Madrid’ drew inspirations from Spain. The show interestingly started with the music of birds chirping in the background and a male model playing a trumpet on a ship that was strategically placed in the middle. This was followed by kathakali dancers in synchronization with another dancer in a red gown who did a Spanish foot tapping dance. The setup and music composition clearly indicated the cultural fusion.
The collection saw use of laces, headgears, coats over sarees, ivory, huge fringes, floral prints and tule. My personal favourite were the blue tule gowns. There was also velvet to be seen like last year. In fact Kabir Bedi who was one of the showstoppers walked the ramp in royal velvet shervani with gold work. The show ended with Kangana Ranaut wearing a floor sweeping lehenga in gold work and paisley patterns. She also spotted a turban adding to the princess like look.

The second show was by the stylish duo, Shantanu & Nikhil who with their collection, ´To Die For´, defined the renaissance period with a modern twist. The silhouettes were fresh with the classic opulence of gold work all over. The collection overall reflected femininity and softness. The collection had luxurious gowns, lehenas, anarkalis and all that the bride of today can ask for. My pick from the collection would be the the use of peplum tops over lehengas. The show was closed by Miss Canad, Seher Biniaz who wore a soft blush pink colour evening gown with beautiful use of French Chantilly lace. Image
