KlosetEdit- For the love of Fashion & More…

The whiff of dreams packed with determined and passionate efforts in realizing a unique vision into reality was instantly reflected when I came across the website- KlosetEdit for the very first time.

I readily related to the need for such a platform as we all have some outfits which only stare at us from our closets and seldom meet the cut for our, “Out of the Day” – so it sounds nothing less than amazing to be actually getting to sell them off. Or how about getting an opportunity to buy our most desirable labels at extremely attractive prices only because one of us decides to part ways with it. Yes, KlosetEdit gives closet management a whole new meaning. And that is exactly why I chose to indulge in tete-a-tete with Deepal and Kanika, the lady bosses who made it all happen

img_2522

Kanika Khurana and Deepal Gandhi

Q: Did you both always wanted to turn fashion entrepreneurs? Please share with us on what eventually led to the KlosetEdit?
A: We met at LSE Summer School in 2010 and bonded over our love for all things fashion. One casual conversation of how “we feel like we have nothing to wear and yet have no space in our overflowing closets, wish we could just sell our closet for cash” led us to wonder if more women feel the same way! Post college, we took up full time corporate jobs while never leaving our idea behind.  After conducting extensive market research, we realized that due to increase in demand for aspirational brands, better logistical support and changing mindset of the consumers, India was maturing as a market for pre-loved fashion. The thrill of building a brand to solve the closet needs propelled us to leave our jobs and plunge into the start-up life!

Q: For the benefit of our readers who have several items hanging in their closets lying unused for the longest time, please explain how they can benefit through KlosetEdit?
A: It is a well surveyed fact that women only end up using 20% of the apparel from their closets, rest of the items make up for impulse purchases, unwanted gifts and sizes that don’t fit anymore. While we actively encourage women to donate items they no longer use, branded handbags and designer dresses that aren’t used anymore are hard to just give away! Thus, they keep lying in our closets, gathering dust and taking up space in our precious ‘real estate’. This is where KlosetEdit comes in the picture. We help women sell their ‘too tight’ impulse purchased jeans, barely used dresses and seasonal buys for something more chic, on point and affordable. In order to sell pre-loved fashion, a seller simply fills a simple seller form with a few details of the products being sent along with a few photos. We arrange a pick-up of the styles which are selected by our in-house stylist. Once the item comes to the warehouse, it goes through an extensive quality and authenticity check and a resale price is quoted to the seller, (only once the seller agrees to the pricing) we start the listing process. Everything from photography, hygiene to maintenance is taken care of by our team. As and when the product sells, we forward the money to the seller in form of a bank transfer or store credits.

Q: Most of us are familiar with the concept of vintage shops being in existence but how has the response been in the virtual world and particularly in the Indian market as far as purchasing a previously owned item is concerned?
A: It has been overwhelming! Sure, there is still apprehension with pre-owned items, but the mindset is fast changing. Buying pre-loved is smart shopping. Why should you pay full retail price when you can buy new items from a variety of brands at up to 80% off? Our excessive focus on QC and curation has led to customers calling us to appreciate the quality of items they have received. Maintaining high quality standards and being extremely transparent about the condition of the items has helped us win loyal customers all over India. We are constantly working towards making buying and selling of fashion as informative and hassle free as possible.

Q: Do you accept only high-end labels? How does one decide what to send for selling and what not?
A: We love all brands from Zara to LV! One can sell anything from a Mango dress to a Hollister skirt to MK bag to Jimmy Choo shoes. We accept most brands from high street to high-end fashion, simply because we don’t want to restrict our collection and we believe each pre-loved item that is in a great condition deserves to be loved again! That being said, we request each seller to look at our list of brands we love and detailed quality standards before scheduling a pick-up with us.

Q: What would you like to say to all those young girls who have a dream but are not able to take it to the next level?
A: Make it happen! Life is too short to miss opportunities. It is always tough to take the plunge, but have a plan, work with a focus and no matter what, don’t stop believing! Starting up has its own highs and lows but the highs are so rewarding. There is no feeling in the world better than seeing your dream turn into a reality.

Q: On a lighter note, when was the last time you got tempted to buy something one of your seller’s sent for the website?
A: EVERYDAY! Honestly, if someone was to ask us on what is the biggest challenge? It sure is this! We get such amazing styles that we really have to control each other from not buying products ourselves!

Q:  Lastly, tell us about the future plans for KlosetEdit?
A: We have been overwhelmed with the response we have got thus far, winning buyers and sellers trust has been the most exhilarating part of our journey. Future plans include geographical expansion, we have seen interest from varied parts of the country and vertical expansion. We also plan to add more styles and categories so people are always looking forward to pre-loved fashion. All of these plans are centered around the customer and ensuring that we provide the best to them.

Latin Quarters Spring Summer’16 Collection

Well, even writing this post is bringing a smile to my face and that truly highlights the fact that I really had a lot of fun at the Bloggers Meet hosted by the Latin Quarters at their store in DLF Mall of India, Noida.

That morning was bright and colourful both inside and out as on walking into the store, I witnessed their fabulous Spring Summer’16 #TheNewMe collection which was full of life. I have to admit that I personally loved so many of their pieces and could actually visualize them in my closet. The clothes looked very comfortable,  wearable and trendy.

In fact, what took the excitement level a notch higher was when we were asked to pick chits and dress-up basis the theme we received.  I was super happy to receive the theme-Folklore. I got thinking and instantly picked up the dress below which was super stylish but then glancing through even more, I picked up something which I loved even more.

1

It is summer time so it is also time to wear a lot of white, what say?

2

While you will see the final look right below, accessorizing wisely was the decision I made. I must add that the brand also offers a decent variety of accessories.

4

So, here you will see me posing in white and to add a dash of a pretty colour, I opted for a Latin Quarters Tote Bag and not to miss mentioning about the pair of super elegant earrings  which I picked up. It was an amazing experience meeting all these lovely ladies and fellow bloggers 🙂

3

I would even like to thank the team yet again for a wonderful morning and the lovely goodies which they presented us.

Lastly, would just like to add that Latin Quarters Spring Summer’16 range truly endeavours to recreate the modern woman’s look with #TheNewMe themed collection. The range promises to weave a psychedelic wardrobe of floral motifs, animal prints and digital graphics in spunky and pastel color contrasts.

So, now when are you playing dress-up next post your retail therapy at the Latin Quarters?  Do share!

Happy Shopping!

#LikeMotherLikeDaughter

My mother’s wonderful. To me she’s perfection.
-Michael Jackson

Well, our mothers are truly wonderful, aren’t they? We definitely owe heaps of gratitude to them for their unconditional love, this life and so much more. Though one day isn’t enough to celebrate this profound bond but let us look at Mother’s Day as another day to raise a toast to them.

W for Woman has truly made the build up to Mother’s Day very special for us. The brand sent us some wonderful goodies and for the very first time both of us donned the same outfit at the very same time.

4

I don’t make any bones in admitting that whatever I have learnt about fashion, I have learnt just seeing my mother.

1

This Mustard Kurta from their Ivory Coast Collection worked like a charm with both of us. For this particular blog post, while mom kept it more modern, I chose to add a dupatta and we both opted to accessorize wisely. The shimmers in our footwear added quite a bit of glamour to our look.

2

The Kurta was actually quite comfortable and makes for the perfect wear for this weather.  What is interesting is that we both picked black lowers to team up with our kurtas.

dThis bond is beyond special and must be celebrated for life!!! We can never thank them enough but as Mother’s Day is fast approaching, let us make sure–we do something special for our lovely moms.

P.S. We loved playing up with our photos oozing with love and added just a tad bit of effects :p

Sisley Spring Summer 2015

We are going the black and yellow route with Sisley’s Spring Summer 2015 Collection.  These pieces are absolutely fabulous. While some would give your personality an elegant cum sophisticated touch, the others would prove ideal for the ultimate sexy look. These are our picks as they are not only ultra comfortable but very trendy as well. And just when you are getting bored with too much black in your wardrobe, some splash of yellow would do wonders. If you already haven’t,  then it is time that you give their SS’15 stuff a serious look.  While we have stuck to black and yellow with some white- you should figure your colour palette soon too!

Manish Malhotra gearing up for the LakmĂ© Fashion Week, with a difference…

Hey, our fashion loving peeps… It has been a while seen we last connected, so today despite the odds (of being under the weather and feeling…well lazy)- we are sharing some worthwhile news from the World of Fashion. And best part being, it is about one of our favourite designers from the tinsel town- Manish Malhotra.

The ace designer announced today that he would be taking up a leading role at next month’s LakmĂ© Fashion Week which launches WEvolve, a global campaign that empowers young men and women to challenge norms that lead to gender violence. This big show featuring The Blue Fashion Runway is a part of LakmĂ© Fashion Week’s 15 year celebrations.

Manish Malhotra at his collection preview of LFW SR 2015

The global WEvolve campaign focuses on the worldwide problem of gender violence.  Here is a hard fact that very well supports the need of such a campaign. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 35 percent of women worldwide, over one billion women, have or will experience either intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. Violence against men is both under-researched and under-reported.

Manish Malhotra and his work will be showcased in WEvolve’s Blue Fashion Runway show on March 18th.

He expressed, “It is a pleasure to be involved in the launch of this WEvolve global campaign that addresses gender violence.  Fashion has a comprehensive and universal appeal and can thus be a powerful instrument to raise awareness and promote action. I congratulate WEvolve and LakmĂ© Fashion Week and am entirely overwhelmed to show my Blue Fashion Runway Collection and contribute to this great cause.”

What Not To Do In Paris

Bonjour Monsieur, Bonjour Madame!

Going to Paris? Predictably you have planned gliding to the top of Eiffel tower, walking through Champs Elysée and shopping at Gallerias Lafayette, besides other expected things on anyone`s itinerary. But I assure you that my this post will  save a lot of your precious time and help you view Paris from a different perspective; one that is much Parisian.

  1. Don`t queue up for the lifts at Eiffel Tower- The tower as you might know has three levels and the lifts go up-till the second level first, which also means that the special skip-the-line tickets get you till here. From the second level, you have to again stand in a long queue to get to the top. You must also make sure that you have the right tickets for going to the top floor or a reservation at the restaurant there. I went till the second level and decided against going to the top level simply because I lacked patience of again waiting in a tiring queue. But, it definitely will be worth going to the top floor in the evening to enjoy wine and dinner at the restaurant there. However, this one does call for a personal experience and stance, so I would not strongly push you against it. All I will suggest is taking the stairs instead of the lifts and booking skip-the-line tickets in advance, which will ensure a quicker entry.
    DSC_0140
  1. Don`t shop the obvious from the obvious- Paris is a great place for fashion goods and there is no denying that but don`t get trapped into international luxury labels alone. Visit Gallerias Lafayette for the number of choices it offers and also the beautiful building that houses it but do not waste more than an hour here. I was actually really turned off seeing long queues of tourists outside many big stores. What`s luxurious about lining up to shop anyway? Too tacky for my taste! Then comes the famous Champs ElysĂ©e, which houses the biggest flagship store of Louis Vuitton and many labels to die for and then comes St. Germain district that not only has insane number of stores but also Cafe de Fleur, where you might run into Kate Moss and Mario Testino if it is fashion week time. However, I will still suggest you to not shop at the above mentioned and rather explore on your own much more Paris specific brands and boutiques. Walk your way through small little streets of le Marais, Bastille and Belleville districts and you will find boutiques that can surprise you with unique choices. Like, I discovered Mademoiselle Chapeaux. This place makes beautiful customised hats. You can buy ready-to-wear or book an appointment in advance to get one made just for you. Only a lady knows the value of a well fitted hat. Isn’t it? These things you can only discover by your own-self. Dare to enter shops that please you and not just brands that you know of. The chic in you deserve more than Champs ElysĂ©e, etc. And don`t forget to buy a French perfume 🙂DSC_0088
  1. Don`t waste money in expensive bars and restaurants- There is no restaurant I like in Paris more than the Parisian gardens. The symmetry and the style that outlines every inch of the gardens is impeccable. It is one of the rare cities, where I wanted to grab a bottle of wine and sit in a garden than seat myself in a fancy Michelin star one. You must definitely go to nearby Versailles, no matter how less or more time that you have. Within Paris, you should spend some time in Jardin du Luxembourg. There are many beautiful gardens that you can go to but these two are my top recommendations, besides any quite and peaceful garden that you might find conveniently when your body begs rest. It is actually a great way to discover the real Parisian life. You can even grab a book if you like or just see young and old Parisians play Boules, the typical French garden game.DSC_0273
  2. Don`t treat the Louvre as a must see SPOT- Neither the Louvre and nor the Mona Lisa that it houses are must see spots. The Louvre is a MUSEUM where you must go expecting to see art and history you grew up reading about in books. This place requires few days to be seen and not hours. If you truly are an art enthusiast then grab a book ahead of your trip and understand the different types of art it has. Maybe you can, depending on your time plan on seeing only certain parts of the museum or some specific gallery. Honestly, you will not be crucified for not seeing this place on your trip to Paris. You must visit it only if you are sincerely interested.
  3. Don`t neglect Montmartre- Probably, it is Moulin Rouge that you will want to limit yourself to because of the famous Nicole Kidman starrer movie by the same name. But trust me it is more you want to see. Go uphill the Montmartre district till the Basilica of Sacre-Couer, the big white church at the top of the hill. This village like district stands many must see places like the Moulin de la Galette (originally, a windmill and later turned cabaret where Van Gogh used to pay visits), Au Lapin Agile (20th century cabaret that used to be frequented by Picasso, Maurice Utrillo, and Toulouse-Lautrec), Bateau Lavoire (youth hostel where Picasso and many important poets and artists lived), Place du Tertre (artists square),La Maison Rose (the building of this restaurant features in one of Maurice Utrillos famous paintings), besides a lot more. And yes for all those Amelie lovers like me, you must not miss Les Deux Moulins, the restaurant where Amelie used to work in the movie. Now don`t tell me you are not tempted to see this district full of artsy surprises.DSC_0305

Much Love,
